It’s also a great way to stay fit and have great stories over the holiday season.
Each entry will include an entry and schwag offered for each of the three individual events. Additionally, TriFuzion has teamed up with local triathlon coaches Jim Vance and Kevin Koskella. Kevin has put together a training plan for the Tiki Swim athletes can follow while Jim Vance has built a training plan to carry TriFuzion through all three events. Additionally each TriFuzion athlete will have access to their very own Training Peaks site where the training plan will be provided and athlete’s can log their training. All TriFuzion athletes will also receive a special medal and invitation to the TriFuzion finish party.

With the blast of a conch horn, the 2.4 mile Tiki Swim starts at the Oceanside Pier while the 1.2 mile option starts off the beach across from the boat launch. Both swims follow the same course and finish on the launch ramp in the Oceanside Harbor. With 30+ lifeguards, 3 Harbor Patrol boats, PWC’s and support from the Oceanside Outrigger Club, this is the safest open water course in the area. The swim course will also feature on course hydration aid stations.
All athletes will be treated to finish line pancake breakfast, custom Peter Grimm Medals and more.
As part of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Oceanside Harbor Days, this is a very family friendly event so plan on staying for the festivities after the swim.
The inaugural Tiki Swim features the two swim distances for both the half and full distance triathlon.
For both distances, athletes will be check in Sunday morning starting at 5:00 at the base of the Oceanside Pier. Athletes will be given a personal gear check bag for the gear they would like transferred to the Oceanside Harbor finish
The 2.4 mile swim starts at 7:00 with the blast of a traditional conch horn from the south side of the Oceanside Pier. Athletes will head straight out past the end of the pietr and turn north for the Oceanside Harbor mouth picking up the 1.2 mile swimmers in the process.
The 1.2 mile course starts from the beach across from the boat launch finish area. These athletes will start at 7:30 with that course merging into the 2.4 mile course.
Both groups of swimmers will enter the protective shelter of the harbor WITH an incoming tide to add a little push. Once inside the Oceanside Harbor, it is a drag race to the finish line where all finishers will be greeted with custom Peter Grimm “Medals”. With the Tiki Swim done, your training will begin to now focus on the 112 ride adding more runs as the bike leg gets closer. Remember to follow us on twitter, facebook and the event calendar to be notified of clinics, rides and special raffles for registered participants only.

We have partnered with Bike the Coast as our bike leg event. Now it its second year Bike the Coast is taking place on November 5th starting at the
Oceanside Pier and touring down the coast turning back north with a loop in Sorrento Valley.
The TriFuzion course differs from the BIke the Coast with one loop on the San Luis Rey bike path to add the necessary additional mileage. This will be added at the beginning of the ride and after TriFuzion athletes have picked up their 6 or 12 miles they will follow the Ride the Coast route. For those doing the full TriFuzion, athletes will be two loops of the Ride the Coast course only.
Following Bike the Coast, athletes will be treated to the awesome Taste the Coast event featuring everything from street tacos to Jamaican BBQ to Italian Ice and craft brewed beer.
While Bike the Coast is only in its second year it follows along in the tradition of its sister event Bike the Hills in May and if you were to go to their site you may notice there is no mention of a 56 or 122 mile option. Fortunately for us, the director for Bike the Coast has a long history with triathlon and we have worked together to add the necessary mileage and staff to make sure TriFuzion athletes get their ride on!!
TriFuzion athletes will be sent out early from the Oceanside Pier start line to pick up the necessary distance on the San Luis Rey bike path. This will only be done once as the athletes will complete their ride following the traditional Bike the Coast route. We will have mats placed on the course to insure all TriFuzion athletes complete their mileage.
With the second leg of TriFuzion in the books it is time to start ramping up the run. There is a comfortable 14 weeks between legs to insure a gradual build to your marathon. One of the nicest aspects of TriFuzion is that training does not put too much time pressure on our athletes. This is especially important since you will be training over two holiday periods. An added bonus here is your training is going to keep the holiday weight gain away. Your friends and family will be jealous as you eat that second serving with out a thought. Run Baby Run. The end in near!!

The TriFuzion experience culminates with the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon.
At 6:00 am on January 22nd, 2011 full TriFuzion athletes will take to the start line at Carlsbad’s Westfield Plaza for a magical run down the Carlsbad coast, while the half Trifuzion athletes take off an hour and half later at 7:30.

Our events sell out, register early.”- Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon
With an amazing course, strong athlete support, pace groups, numerous spectator viewing areas and awesome volunteers, the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon is the perfect event to finish off your TriFuzion experience.
Ground zero for the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon is Carlsbad’s Westfield mall sitting just east of the Buena VIsta lagooon directly off Hwy 78 and Hwy 5.
The full marathon and starts and finishes at Westfield Plaza Camino Real in Carlsbad. After the starter’s gun goes off, marathoners will head for the coast passing the Buena Vista Lagoon through the village of Carlsbad to Carlsbad Boulevard (Highway 101). You’ll head south on the 101 to Palomar Airport Road (PAR). After a 3 mile trip inland on you’ll return to the coast and again head south on 101 to a quick U-turn near La Costa Avenue back up the coast to the finish line.
The marathon course is rolling. Much of it is along the beautiful Pacific Ocean. The highest point of elevation is 308 feet above sea level reached gradually between miles 5 and 9.
The half marathon course is the fastest in the San Diego area and one of the fastest in the U.S. It starts and finishes at the same location as the marathon; however the courses are not the same. After the starter’s gun goes off, you’ll head to the ocean and Carlsbad Boulevard (Highway 101). You’ll run south on the 101 to the turn around point at Break Water and then you’ll head back to the finish line. The out-and-back course is gently rolling, with no major elevation changes. Run this course and you will see why some of the fastest half marathon times in the U.S. run here.
You’ve maintained the focus. Put in the training. You’ve swam, cycled and ran a total of 140.6 or 70.3 miles and now it’s time to celebrate your accomplishment with the family, friends and the other athletes.
To celebrate the finish of the first TriFuzion virtual full and half distance triathlon we are going to party. We are working on securing the venue and the details of the event, so stay tined for further announcements, but know that family and frineds are definitely welcome.
Continuing San Diego’s tradition of innovation in triathlon TriFuzion is the first virtual Full or Half distance triathlon. Based in San Diego’s north county coastal beach towns of Oceanside and Carlsbad, athletes will participate in three separate events to create their personal triathlon accomplishment.
Beginning with the inaugural Tiki Swim taking place in Oceanside on September 25th athletes will swim 2.4 miles for the full TriFuzion or 1.2 miles for the half TriFuzion. Following the swim, we have partnered with Bike the Coast where athletes will ride the 112 miles or follow the half option, riding 56 miles. OCEANSIDE- Every time I ride through the Oceanside Harbor I look over at that inviting still water and have imagined a swim there. We in North San Diego County are not fortunate enough to have an open water swim venue similar to La Jolla Cove, Mission or Glorietta Bay and it is often the surf [...]
